Innovative Dual Quality Control Elevates Destec Regulators to No. 1 on Digital Platforms

The product rating survey conducted by Destec Indonesia's internal team, shows Destec-branded LPG regulators, one of the leading regulator brands in Indonesia, secured the highest position at 38.50% of market share in the digital market in 2023. For the other brands, the one in second position holds a 25.27% rating, while the third holds 22.78%. This figure reflects the trust of consumers purchasing products through various digital platforms such as Shopee, Tokopedia, Lazada, Bukalapak, and Blibli.

In addition to achieving high ratings, Destec regulator sales have shown a positive growth trend (year on year). In 2023, the number of units sold had increased by 18.3% compared to the sales in 2022. Meanwhile, the largest market for Destec regulators is in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas.

According to Abdul Kahar, Technical Director of Destec Indonesia, the return rate of Destec regulators in the last 3 years has been kept very low at approximately 1% on average. This is as a result of periodic inspections on every stage of production namely dual-quality control. The steps consist of monitoring the whole production process (Quality Assurance/QA process) and the evaluation of all parts including the final products (Quality Control/QC process). Therefore, the reject rate during internal production has been only 0.2% over the last three years, based on internal quality control data.

This is further supported by the contribution of the leak testing machine, which plays a crucial role in preventing regulator leaks. This testing is a mandatory process to ensure product safety and reliability. "We specially designed and invented this leak testing machine only for Destec regulators, which cannot be found in other regulator products," said Abdul in Bekasi on Tuesday (5/28).

Moreover, he explained that this leakage test machine consists of several components such as a valve (the connection between the cylinder and the regulator), mald (a tool to adjust the position with the machine), and elements in the form of flame exposure.

This machine is also connected to pipes and gas. During the flame exposure process, regulators that do not react (spurts fire) are considered to have passed the test.

"At the beginning, the regulator is placed into a machine. This machine is connected to the gas cylinder through a hose. Then, the testing tool is turned on. The regulator will be pressed by something called a mald, which positions the regulator according to the valve’s position,” he explained.

“Then, gas will flow into the regulator. After that, the testing process is carried out by exposing the regulator to fire. If there is even a slight leakage, the fire will be seen to flare up," he added.

As for regulators that, after being adjusted by fire, produce a flare-up, they are considered to have failed the test. Meanwhile, all regulators that fail the leak test are not reused and are not modified.

Abdul added that the commitment to safety of Destec regulators can also be seen from one of Destec’s pioneering technology called Flat Seal, the rubber made component that is exclusively designed to meet the high standard of Destec regulators. Destec started to ship this accessory separately since this year due to its increasing demand.

"All Destec regulator products are standardized by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) and international standards, such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
